The Toughest Horse Race In The World

I recently recieved an email from a good friend of mine, David Murray, who is preparing to compete in the toughest horse race in the world. The Mongolian Derby.

Now, if you thought a marathon was tough check out what this race involves!

Riding pretty much non stop across some of the toughest terrain in the world (the same terrain that Ewan Mcgregor went across during his “Long Way Round Motorbike Expedition”) for 1000km, Dave will change horse every 40km and will have to navigate himself, largely using the stars at night – (if the GPS breaks!), in order to win the prestigious title.

Make no mistake this is a TOUGH challenge with potential attack from wild animals, bleeding kidneys and all manner of mucle strains and tears potentially affecting Dave, it will push him to the very limit.

Competing alongside him will be such able horseman as Richard Dunwoody. Dave himself would class himself as an able rider before this race, but he will have a fraction of the expereince of the people he will be cometing against.

I’ll keep you posted a to Dave’s progress in the race, it starts on 22nd August, but in the meantime please check out his website and sponsor him. All the money raised will be going to fund a housing project for mongolian orphans who have to currently survive the extremely cold mongolian winters in the sewers huddled up next to hot water pipes. The money raised will provide them with traditional mongolian housing, a Ger, see picture below

give-a-ger-1

UV wishes Dave all the luck and strength in the world on his journey to Physical Wisdom and looks forward to supporting his efforts along the way.

Good Luck Dave!
